Balance & Stability

Specialised Health Programs

As the population begins to age we are realising the growing costs of falls related accidents.  Such accidents often occur due to loss of balance while carrying out routine, daily activities.

Through research, Tai Chi based balance and stability programs have been shown to be particularly effective falls prevention.

he Australian Academy of Tai Chi & Qigong (AATC) has developed a specialised Program for Balance and Stability.  The key aspects outlined below, and the individualised teaching methodology employed by our experienced consultants and instructors, makes this program an effective tool in balance and stability training.

Core Stabilising Muscles

The correct functioning of internal abdominal muscles and the neutral alignment of the spine when performing tasks are essential components of good balance. Specific exercises, dynamic relaxation techniques, and the AATS’S training methodology serve to activate the local core stabilising muscles.

Posture

As apposed to traditional static postural alignment, AATS programs relate posture to the energy of movements. Eg: energy evenly passing through the knee joint, the order in which muscles fire, and control of the pelvic area. Postural hypertension, kinaesthetic awareness and motor-skill patterns are all addressed in our system of training.
